Window boxes are a great way to bring your garden closer to your home and to add personality to your windows. They can be used for planting flowers, herbs, vine plants and vegetables. The ideas are endless and your imagination is the limit when it comes to adding your own personal touch to your window decor.
When planting in window boxes there is a couple thinks that you want to keep in mind. Do you want the plantings or boxes to standout or blending with your windows. This a personal preference and it is a decision that you will need to make to be happy with.
To have the boxes blend in you can use low vine type plants or ground cover with a few flowers to accent them and if you want them to standout you can plant them with bright color like impatiens, daisies or tulips. Tall plants like lilies or gladiolus are another way to make your window boxes standout when adding a few as a centerpiece to draw attention to the window.
Hanging plants are another way that you can add personality to a window. They can be hung directly in front of a window or even below the window to blend in with the natural landscape or existing garden below.
Window boxes and container planting are becoming a more popular way of gardening. They are a low maintenance and very efficient way to garden while add character to your landscape at the same time. They are also a method of gardening when limited space is a problem.
