Care starts before you even start planting. The soil structure is the most important part of a healthy organic garden. The soil is what holds all the nutrients that the plants need to grow.Garden soil should be tested to check the soils ph level. This will tell you a lot about the soil condition and the amendments needed to improve the soil.

Once you have your garden soil ready for planting you should layout the garden to get the maximum benefit from your plants. There are many plants that can be a benefit to the health and care of a garden.Companion Planting can help in weed control, help reduce the amount of watering needed, insect control and there are plants that can benefit the growth of other plants.

After your garden is planted and you have planned it out well the care of the garden should be minimal as long as you don't let the weeds over take the garden. The biggest problems start if weeds over take the garden.Weed control is a very important in organic gardening. The weeds will compete with the other plants for water and nutrients in the soil. If the weeds mature to seed the problem will multiply out of control and it will take a lot of effort to get the weed problem back under control.

Watch and study your plants. Look for signs of leaves discoloring or wilting. This can be a signs of lack of water, nutrient deficiency, plant disease or a insect problem. Check the under side of the leaves for any signs of insect eggs or larva. They can be simply wiped off before they mature and become a problem to the plants. Catching insect problems before they cause a danger to the crop is the best way to control insects.

It is very useful to get to know the insects in your area. There are insects that will benefit gardens by controlling the insects that cause harm to our crops and there are others that we need to pollinate our crops.Beneficial insects are important to organic gardening.

Keep a journal on the progress of your garden including weather conditions, soil testing information, soil amendments you added to the soil, dates of crop planting, the dates of harvesting crops and crop yields. This is very useful information that you can look back on from year to year.
