Seed Storage - Preserving The Past

by  John Yazo

Heirloom seeds generally store for years. Once the seeds have been harvested and dried. You can package and label them for storage. Keep your seeds in an air tight jar in a cool dark location, ideally around 45-50 degrees and keep them from freezing or extreme temperature changes. Moisture will cause the seeds to mold and they will spoil.

When you are ready to use the seeds start with the oldest saved first and if you have any second thoughts if the seeds are any good or to old you can preform a simple germination test.

With the proper storage and care you will get many years out of your seed bank. You should keep a generous amount of seed stored for many years ahead of you encase you have years with a bad crop production. The last thing you want to do is start over.

Good Luck and I wish you many years of Happy Gardening.
