When choosing you plants, there are two things to look for. Your miniature roses and also old varieties of roses are usually grown from there own root. Hybrid roses are roses that are usually grafted to a root stock, so careful attention is needed to choose a healthy plant. You want a plant that have at least three good healthy canes growing from the bud union, this is the formed bulb shape at the base of the plant and the canes should be between eight and twelve inches long, with a thickness of at least one quarter inch.

When choosing a location for your roses, they need an area that receives full sunlight, at least six hours. The soil that they like is one that has plenty of organic matter and drains well.

When planting your roses, you want to dig them in 6 to 9 inches deep and cover them with a good healthy nutrient rich compost for nutrition and water deeply. Roses are heavy feeders, supply them with the nutrients they need three times a year, spring, summer and fall. If the season is dry, water them regularly, deep as needed and mulch heavy to retain moisture, along with suppressing weeds.

Start your on rose garden and enjoy the beauty they will bring to your yard.
