Preparing Potting Soil Mix

To prepare soilless potting mix, first dampening the mix thouroghly. Make sure there are no dry lumps by mixing and that the mix is dampened completely. You don't want the mix to be soaked and dripping with water, just moist.
Soilless potting mix is better to use than garden soil because potting soil mix will not compact like garden soil ill, soil mix doesn't contain weed seeds and it doesn't contain disease spores that can be harbored in garden soil from diseased plants. one big advantage of using a soilless mix is you can add components to your specific needs, like to control the amount of water retained, aerate and drainage like, coir, vermiculite, perlite or peat.
Seeds do not need fertilizer to germinate. Fertilizers aren't needed until a seedling has formed it's first true leaves.
You can purchase all the supplies that you need to make your own soilless potting soil mix or purchase already prepared soil mix at most all local garden centers or online.
