Planting Seeds In Starter Pots
by John Yazo
Now that you have your containers filled with potting soil it is time to start planting your seeds.
The first very important part of planting seeds is to read the instructions on the back of the seed packet. Some seeds can be planted directly from the packet while others need to be pre-soaked or chilled before planting.
Once you have read the instructions you can start planting. Small seeds like lettuce can be sprinkled on top of the potting soil then sprinkle another light layer of potting soil on top of them. Larger seeds that can be handled it is easier to space the out while planting. After the seeds are planted cover them with a layer of soil mix to the depth that is stated in the instructions on the back of the seed packet. The smaller seeds that were sprinkled in the containers will need to be thinned out once they germinate. When planting larger seeds place three or four seeds in the container in case some seeds don't germinate. The seedlings can be thinned out once they have germinated. After your seeds are planted and you add a layer of soil mix to the depth stated on the packet firm the soil gently.
Now it is time to water the seed containers.
