Time to Start Planning Your Spring Garden

Organic gardening is a unique method and can be done in many different ways. Containers, raised beds or even as a part of your existing landscape. Whatever way you choose, planning is very important when wanting to grow a thriving crop.
Winter is the perfect time to sit back and do the research on plants you want to grow in your gardens. A simple thing as a plant seed catalog can give you all the information you need. Put a list together of all the plants you want to grow and then research the different varieties, along with the environment or growing conditions they need to grow successfully, not all plants will grow anywhere.
Once you have your list together, check to see what there germination time is and find out what your hardness zone for your area so you will know when to start planting outdoors. Count back from that date to figure when you should start planting your seeds indoors so they will be ready for transplanting in the spring.
Now that you have a list of plants and the dates you have to start planting them, it is time to layout your garden on paper. Here again you will need to do some research, you don't want to plant the taller plants so they will shade out the smaller ones and you want to check to see what plants will grow near each other.
Companion planting is a method of growing crops in the same area with others that will benefit each other. Once you have all your planning done it is time to start ordering the seeds an other supplies you will need to be ready for your spring gardening experience.
