Planning Your Garden
by John Yazo
Organic Heirloom Gardening is relaxing and a very enjoyable way of gardening if you don't overwhelm yourself by making your garden to big.Garden planing is a major part in having a successful garden. It will save you time and make you gardening experiences more enjoyable. You don't need to come home from a long hard day at work and have to work in your garden. Your garden should be a place where want to go to wind down and enjoy yourself after work.
There
are a few basic steps in having a successful garden.
- Pick A Location - Your garden should be in an area where it gets at least 6 to 8 hours of sun. The area should have good drainage, an area where water doesn't sit after a rain.It should be close to a water source if water is needed during a dry season.
- Size Of Garden - Don't go to big. Plant a garden that you can maintain. If you make your garden to big it just becomes to much work to keep up with and you will get disgusted. You don't want to make it another job. You want to enjoy your garden.
- Prepare Area For Planting - Remove the grass and weeds from the area. This is where a compost pile is handy to have. Once the area is clean turn the soil over and remove unwanted rocks and roots.
- Test Soil - Your should test the soil in your garden to see hat the ph level is. The ph should be between 6.5 and 7. This will tell you if any amendments to the soil are needed.
- Add Amendments - Compost is a good amendment to add to your garden soil. It improves the soil texture . Compost is full of organic material that has allot of nutrients in it for your plants.
- Layout Plants - You should layout all your rows before you start to plant. This way you can move plants around as needed. Once you start planting and you find out all your plants wont fit where you thought it is harder to remove then and you have a chance of damaging them.
- Start Planting - Now that you have your garden all prepared and laid out it is time to plant.
- Water - After all your planting is done you should give all your plants and seeds a good soaking of water.
- Mulching- You finished planting your seeds and plants. Clean the area of all excess materials and apply a 4" layer of mulch. This will help hold in the moisture and keep the weeds fro growing.
- Plant Care - You finished all your planting and it is time to watch and observe the plants . Watch for insect damage, signs that the plants are wilting, discolored leaves and weeds.
Heirloom Organic Gardening is enjoyable and relaxing with a little simple planning .
Have
fun and and enjoy your Organic Heirloom Gardening experiences. It is a
very rewarding way of gardening.
