Phosphorous - BE SAFE!...NOT SORRY!... TEST REGULARLY!
by John Yazo
Phosphorous is a major part in a plants development. It is needed for a healthy root development, stalk or stem strength, improves flower formation, seed production and crop maturity.
Organic sources for phosphorus are steamed bone meal, rock phosphate and horse, cattle or poultry manure.
The deficiency of phosphorus is harder to diagnose than the deficiency of nitrogen or potassium. some signs of deficient phosphorus are dark bluish-green leaves, purplish color stems and a stunting growth at early stages of plant life.
Replenishing nutrients back into the soil with organic sources takes time. They need the micro-organisms in the soil to break them down. Testing of the soil on a regular basis will prevent the depletion of the needed nutrients in the soil by detecting it at a early stage.
