Having a successful organic vegetable garden certainly can be easy, even for those of you who have not grown their own gardens in the past. This is also true for the ones who are located in areas that have poor soil conditions or the lack of space for growing a garden. The fast paced way of life that most are use too also can be a factor in ones ability to enjoyed the art of organic gardening and growing their own crops. If you think it can't be done for you, think again, anyone can be successful.
There are just a few simple things that you need to know before beginning your gardening experience of growing flowers, herbs or vegetables of your very own. Let's talk a little about a few of the basic things you should know.
Choosing the proper location when starting an organic garden is one of the first things you need to look at. You need to be sure that it gets a minimum of at least five hours of sun each day, and that the soil in the area you have chosen is one of good soil structure. If this is your first time of venturing into organic gardening, you should start off small. It is very important that you start out with a manageable size garden first before you try tackling anything more.
The observation how the wind blows in your area is on thing that needs to be watched. You might need to provide some type of wind breaker, like fences for your taller crops so they won't get damaged by the wind blowing them over.
The location you choose needs to have a sufficient water source nearby so you can water easily when needed to, watering on a regular basis is a must for plants to produce quality crop, this goes for flowers, herbs and vegetables. Just make sure the location you choose is dry and with an organic soil structure that will retain the proper amount of moisture, along with one that drains well. A flooded area or an area that water sits can definitely ruin your dreams of having a productive, healthy garden.
Once you have chosen your location, it is time to start preparing for your garden first you will need to remove and sod, weeds, and rock. Them you will need to apply some nutrient rich organic humus to improve the soils structure for an organic garden. Organic matter added to the soil is what will improve the soils structure and allow for the natural microorganisms to work the soil for you and to provide the nutrients needed for your crops to thrive.
Once the area is prepared, it is time to start to plant. Planting is fairly simple, but it can take a considerable amount of time. I can tell you, that the time is well worth it, there is nothing that tastes better than fresh crops grown in your very own organic garden.
