In recent years, more home gardeners have been going green with there lawn and gardening practices, along with shifting away from the carefully manicured lawns and gardens. The natural looking, informal landscapes have been becoming a more popular choice of the organic gardener, along with the use of native plants that require little or no maintenance.
If you are looking for ways to go green with the landscaping in your yard and gardens, there are some ways to turn all or part of your yard into a natural landscape and one that has the beauty that only nature can provide, along with one that requires less effort to maintain. This type of landscape can also supply you with many different species of wildlife, animals, birds and insects that can be beneficial in controlling pests in your gardens naturally.
Our fascination for having the perfect manicured lawn as the main part of our landscape comes at a cost, and a steep one at that by the use of chemicals as a quick fix for nutrients and weed control, along with the pollution caused by mowers. All the lawn area of all the homes have replaced the natural habitat that has been occupying it. This habitat not only effects the growth of the native plants that were there first, it alters the entire ecosystem, from all types of natural wildlife that existed to the biology of the soil.
Soil plays a bigger part of the landscape than just a place for plants to grow. The natural biology of soil has a large effect in keeping the air we breath and the water we drink clean. It provides for healthy plant growth by supplying plant life the nutrients and moisture they need to thrive. With organic gardening practices, it's all about the soil, you feed the soil to keep it healthy so it can take care of the plants.
Everyone wants a lawn to be a beautiful part of there home landscape, but it doesn't be the only part of it. With some thoughtful plant selection, along with placement, it's easy to create a low-maintenance landscape in your yard that will still give the appearance of the neatness and care we are all use too. The incorporating of certain native plants into your landscape can also improve the habitat for birds, butterflies and other wildlife to enjoy and for you to enjoy watching in your own yard.
