Micro-Farming - An Urban Solution

Urban areas certainly have a downside when wanting to garden. Lots being limited for space, growing a garden can be a challenge. This can be a problem for those who live in the city and crave for a garden to supply them with fresh flowers, fruits, herbs and vegetables, along with missing out on the enjoyment of having there own farm.

Crops can still be grown in these areas, and with thriving rewards. It is not an impossible task to grow enough crops in a limited area and still have more than enough for your personal needs, leaving the excess to sell and have an extra income. Micro-Farms are becoming more popular with the way the economy is today. Urban and suburb areas are becoming mini-farmland.

Having land to plant a garden is the ideal situation to be in, but it is not necessary. Containers, window boxes and raised beds can all produce a high yielding crop and are all great ways to organic garden.

All you need is a place that gets the sunlight needed for crops to grow and incorporate companion and succession planting into your gardening practices to have a crop growing at all times throughout the entire season. You can even have crops being harvested in your micro-farm during the times when the larger commercial farms crops are considered out of season.

Small greenhouses are another method of keeping the growing season for your micro-farm going throughout the year, they are available in many sizes for the home gardener.

If your dream is to have a farm to grow crops for your personal use and profit. Don't give up if thoughts of a large piece of land is the reason you think you can't. There are ways if you want to spend the time and labor to do it. Get creative and grow the crops you want with you have to work with.
