Hybrid Seeds - Cross Pollinated From More That One Variety

by John Yazo

Hybrid seeds are seeds that are produced from two or more varieties of a species of a plant that are cross pollinated to produce a plant for a specific characteristic. This can be for greater yields, better uniformity, color, disease or drought resistance, self life and for mechanical harvesting purposes.

Hybrid seeds are the most common seed that can be purchased for both the home garden and for agricultural purposes.

Hybrid seeds aren't highly recommended to be saved and should be purchased each year to have the same crop. These seeds are produced under very controlled conditions to produce the same plant as the parent plant.

Heirloom or open pollinated seeds are seeds that can be saved and will produce the same plant as it's parent plant year after year for generations.
