by John Yazo

A home garden patio is a great way to create the space to relax and enjoy the beauty of your garden. They are also a great way to attract wildlife to your backyard like butterflies, hummingbirds and toads to add natural beauty along with the benefits of a natural method of pest control.

When creating a patio in your home garden you want it to be a safe place to spend your time. The use of chemical or toxic pesticides should be eliminated to create an environmentally safe atmosphere . Chemical pesticides can be harmful to both you and the environment.

To prevent the use of harmful pesticides and still grow a healthy garden is to change your garden practices to organic gardening. The method of organic gardening is one that involves gardening in harmony with nature. Companion planting is a major part of controlling pests in your garden without the use of chemicals.

Nutrients that your plants need to feed on to survive and grow healthy is another concern. The use of chemical fertilizers can easily be avoided by simple use of compost in your garden. Feeding the soil in your garden and garden beds with organic matter like compost will add the nutrients needed to the soil for your plants to feed from and thrive.

What you grow in your patio garden doesn't have to be limited to just flowers. Mixing a combination of flowers, herbs and vegetables in containers, raised beds along with garden beds will add dimension along with character to your garden landscape.

Use your imagination and get creative. The use of other outdoor furniture, plant stands, mixed size containers are all a great way to add accent to your backyard garden.
