Hibiscus Like It Warm

Hibiscus are a tropical plant and like warm temperatures. They prefer temperatures between 60 degrees  and 90 degrees fahrenheit. If temperatures drop below 50 degrees fahrenheit most growth will stop until the temperatures warm back up. Short periods of either hot or cold will not harm them but they could show signs of displeasure by loosing a few leaves or buds dropping off.

If the temperature drops below freezing it will harm the plant. The extent of the damage could be minor or it could kill the plant depending on how long it was exposed to the freezing temperatures, how mature the plant is and how much moisture was in the soil. Temperatures below freezing should be avoided. Leaving a plant in freezing conditions can kill the plant. Move potted hibiscus plants indoors for the winter or winterize outdoor plants in areas that don't get extreme freezing conditions.
