Hardness Zone Map
A plants hardiness is what determines the locations, hardness zone, where a plant will do best in. Check and know the hardness zone you are in and check the zones that the plants you want to grow for there specified zones. If a plant doesn't meet the hardness requirements for your area, it most likely wont survive the winter months. There are times you will see a plant that isn't for the zone you are in, and you want to plant it. If the zone is only one zone way from yours, it is possible it could survive with the proper winter protection, like heavy mulching or bring the plant indoors. It is a chance you will need to decide on if you are willing to put in the extra work and risk the chance it won't survive.
