Edible landscaping is a unique method of gardening. It is a very economic way of growing crops and adding beauty to your yard at the same time. Herbs, vegetables, flowers and fruits are all plants that can be included in your landscaping projects.
There are several types of gardening methods and techniques that can be used or included when you are creating an edible landscape garden. Ones that are most commonly used are container planting, window box gardening, pot planting and raised bed gardening. These types of gardens are easy to locate in areas that are not workable for any other type of garden and can be moved when needed to change your landscape theme.
Soil is one part of organic gardening that is very important for whatever method of planting you choose. It is the key to having a successful garden. The soil that you use for whatever method of gardening you choose needs to be of the soil structure that the plants you are planting prefer for them to thrive. Organic gardening of the traditional type garden can have a soil that has been amended with organic matter to a good structure. That same soil isn't the same soil that works best once it is placed in a pot or a container. When planting in pots and containers you will want to use a soil or soiless potting mix that will retain the moisture and the nutrients that you will be providing to the plants, unlike garden soil that has a complex community of life in it that works the soil and creates allot of the nutrients needed for the plants from the organic matter you add to the soil.
Now it's time to start talking plants. There
are many types of plants that can be planted and paired together, not
only for there looks but because they can benefit from each other. This
method of gardening is known as companion planting. There are plants
that can add nutrients to the soil for to benefit the plant they are
paired with to plants that will aid in the control of pests that attack
the plant they are paired with. When choosing the plants you want to
grow don't just dive in and buy them because they look good in the book
you are seeing them in. Make a list of what you use and consume in your
house and select varieties from them. There are many varieties of many
different plants that you can pair off together to create a incredible
looking and efficient edible garden.
