Garden Soil Structure And Texture - Makes A Healthy Soil
by John Yazo
The structure of your garden soil is very important. Soil is made up of organic matter, fine particlesof rock, water, air, microorganisms and animals. A healthy soil is full of life. There are also arthropods, insects, fungi, bacteria along with other organisms. It is very important to keep soil full of living things. It is the difference between having a healthy successful garden or not.
The proportion of all the elements that make up soil are very important. It makes up the soils structure. The soil structure is what controls the water retention, air, drainage and the fertility of the soil.
Soils range from sand, which doesn't hold water and dries out quickly to clay that can hold excessive amounts of water but when it does dry out gets to hard for water to penetrate.
Texture of soil can not be changed. It is the portions of sand, silt and clay particles that make up soil. You can improve the structure of all soil types with different amendments. Some just take more work than others.
