Garden Patios - Outdoor Gardening In Tough Times
by John Yazo
In these tough times many people are looking for ways to save money. A healthy and rewarding way to save is to grow your own personal organic garden. Apartments, condos and even homes with small yards can still enjoy the benefits that a garden can provide.
The benefit of creating a garden patio is that you get the rewards of creating an environment that is a relaxing and one that can provide you with a source of food at the same time, and they don't have to be costly.
Garden patios can be built into your existing landscape. Seating areas, paths or walkways can be the existing grass that is growing in your yard now. Layout of plant containers or garden beds can be created in an area of your existing yard or on an existing patio. When most think of a patio, they think concrete or some type of a solid surface. They don't have to be, grass areas can create a natural and relaxing environment for a patio.
A patio can be designed in a number of ways. It can be a large area in your yard or small area near your home, it can even be an area with no yard. Small containers as simple as a basket, flower pot, old boots or window boxes all make ideal containers for plants. The ideas are endless in what you can use. If it is strong enough to hold the soil and plant, it is good enough to use, just make sure there are drainage holes in the bottom of whatever you choose for a container.
Get creative an use your imagination. A simple are next to a house with a concrete walk can be turned into a patio by just placing a couple chairs with an arrangement of pots to grow flowers, herbs or vegetables in. If there is a window near this area you can even hang a window box to add more character to the design. Just remember, you imagination is the limit.
