Filling Containers For Planting Seeds
by John Yazo
Once you have your soil mix you will need to dampen it by adding water and mixing it thoroughly. Keep mixing the soil until the soil is moist and there are no clumps. The soil mix should be completely damp not soaked so that water dripping out of it.
Next you will need a good area to work. Preferable a bench or table, containers and a small trowel. Fill the containers with the soil mix loosely. Once the containers are filled take the full containers and gently tap them on the top of the bench or table top getting the soil to settle. Don't force the soil mix into the container by packing it in tightly. You want the soil mix to have air space and drainage. The soil mix will retain enough water if prepared properly.
Containers shouldn't be filled to the top. You want the soil to be between 1/2 inch to 3/4 inches from the top of the container when you are finished filling them.
