Flowering Bulbs - Gardening With Nature
by John Yazo
As winter comes to an end, crocus, daffodils and tulips are one of the first flowers to take center stage in your gardens. As the melting snow disappears into the soil, the bright color of spring dances in the sunlight with these early blooming flowers among your natural landscape. However, spring isn't the only time you can grow these flowers.
These delightful flowers can be grown many ways. Whether it be in a garden bed, under shrubs or trees in your landscape, in a rock garden and planted in containers on your patio or indoors, they are just waiting to bloom and showoff there color.
A natural garden with bulbs is easy and affordable to create. Bulbs can be purchased in quantities of 10 to 15 bulbs to packages of a 100 or more. Most of the garden centers even sell bulbs that are prepackaged for a specific type of garden you want to create. These can be packages of one type of flower to a variety of flowers and colors.
When selecting bulbs for your gardens, a simple rule to remember is that the larger the bulb, the bigger the flower usually is. Choose bulbs that are plump and firm, avoid bulbs if they are soft, overly dry, scarred, and ones that have traces of mold. The most difficult part of choosing bulbs, is choosing from the 100's varieties that are available.
Planting these types of flowers into your existing landscape and even in naturally wooded areas around your property will be a delightful way to start the fist days of spring.
