To start your own garden with your favorite types berries doesn't take much space. They can be grown in a variety of ways like, raised beds, containers, potted or in a garden in the backyard. The soil that berries best thrive in is a soil with a high organic content and one that drains well. Try to stay away from areas that are low-lying areas and areas that frost pockets in. An area that has full sun is best and if the area that you are in is highly exposed to wind build a windbreak to  prevent any wind damage from happening. The climate isn't much of a concern to berries. Blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries can all tolerate a wide range of climates.

There are many varieties of berry plants that can be chosen from. It is best to choose a variety that is best suited for your area. In allot of  locations berries grow wild. If you have them in your area late summer into fall is the usual time that berry plants will reproduce smaller plants in the soil around them. These plants can be relocated in the fall into your garden and will bloom into a healthy plant the following year.

The most common pest that you will have with any type of berry is birds.Birds go crazy over berries and the only way that they can be prevented from attacking your entire crop is by fencing in and netting the area. If you are a bird lover and want birds in your yard you can easily plant a few plants outside the fenced area just for them. Birds are good to have around the garden, they are an excellent method of insect control.

Growing your own berries in an organic garden will produce a berry packet full of flavor and nutrients without the pesticides that are used in crops that are produced commercially.
